Communion with the Hand - But Not for the Dog

An altar server at San Dominic Savio Parish, Archdiocese of Bogotá, Colombia, observed in April during Communion that a woman was taking the host with her hands, bringing it back to the pews and sharing it with her pet which was with her in the church.

At least the dog didn't take the communion with his paw. In his sermon on 28 April (video below), the parish priest, Reverend Laureano Barón, called it a "sacrilege" and urged the anonymous woman to go to confession with the bishop, who alone can absolve this "grave" sin in confession.

Rev. Barón has nothing against it when the faithful take communion with their hand, but they should put it into their mouth in front of the priest. He also mentioned a mother who took a piece of her host and gave it to her little boy, who had asked for it "to know what it tastes like". Strangely, the priest is surprised: "It seems that we do not understand that we are facing the greatest miracle in the world".

But then, Barón himself distributes communion in the hand of the faithful although he sees and knows that particles of the hosts fall to the ground and are trampled by him and by others. It's impossible to have both: One either chooses communion in the hand or one chooses respect for the Blessed Sacrament.

Another consideration is the fact that Paul's refusal to discipline those bishops and priests who were promoting Communion in the hand, despite this deviation being in disobedience to the laws of the Church, led to his being forced to give permission for the practice. And as Aquinas teaches: nothing. born in disobedience to the Church will bear fruit.

@Billy F... "The Angel then rose, and taking the host he gave it to Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco". This seems like communion in the hand from Dr Maria's post below.

At the Last Supper, the Apostles were the first Bishops of the Continuation of Israel. They were the First Priests of the Melchizedek Order.

It doesn’t say the Angel put it into their hands? When I receive our Lord on my tongue, I also take the Holy Eucharist.

A huge can or worms was opened when the prohibitions against hand Communion were lifted.

Understatement - what happened was the welcoming and toleration of all kinds of blasphemies against Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament - and finally disbelief in the Catholic understanding of the Real Presence. The dreams of the Protestant Reformers have been fulfilled 😫 . Shame, shame on us! Communion in the hand needs to be forbidden - Our Lord should be received on the tongue in the Latin Rite …More

Aberrations that have taken root with the liturgical reform.
How many blasphemies!

Sorry to be the lone dissenter on this. I love Communion in the Hand because it is the original form of Communion "Take and eat" spoken by Christ and was the standard for 900 in the early church. Don't mean to have a debate just wanted to say a word or two about the other side. Peace!!!
foward
@chris griffin It hasn't been around for 900 years.
Very soon it was seen that this was not the most worthy way to receive God. And if the Church prohibits it later, it has been for a reason. The same reasons apply today.
"Take and eat" Jesus said to his Apostles, not to simple faithful. Is not the same. The priests have consecrated hands.

@foward... thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. “When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them.” Luke 24:30.
Therefore we have the second instance of Jesus giving Communion in in the hand. It cannot be wrong. In fact, I believe Jesus specified the form of receiving in the hand just like he specified the words of Baptism.More

I read that article a long time ago. It is nothing more that derogatory snide remarks about people like me. The concepts of "devout" and "reverent" are strictly individual opinions, nothing more.
I repeat that we have two instances from Jesus himself confirming Communion in the hand thus making it an impossibility to be wrong.More

@chris griffin Jesus also prayed in synagogues. Maybe we should do the same? Jesus gave us the Mass during the Passover ritual. Maybe we should do the same?It would be impossible for either to be wrong. After all, Jesus did it.
chris griffin
You are doing synagogues to churches. I am doing Holy Communion to Holy Communion which is entirely fitting.

@chris griffin He said it for the apostles, it is very clear.
And over time the apostles, delving into what was best for the faithful, and above all what was liturgically worthy of God, prohibited it.

@foward...thank you for your kindly and sincere responses and your devotion to Holy Communion. I appreciate your steadfastness and willingness to debate. You have my sincere gratitude and best wishes. God Bless you.
