Cardinal Joseph Coutts and Archbishop Benny Travas, the Archbishop of Karachi, Pakistan, agree that LG 8, 14,16,UR 3, NA 2, GS 22 etc in Vatican Council II are not practical exceptions for the Athanasius Creed, the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus , an ecumenism of return of the Syllabus of Pius IX and neither for CCC 846 on outside the Church no salvation. CCC 846 also cites AG 7. This would be the new interpretation of Vatican Council II by the Focolares, the Charismatic Renewal, the New Cathechumenal Way and the Legion of Mary in the diocese.
With LG 8, 14, 16 etc being only hypothetical and invisible, Vatican Council II has no practical exceptions for the exclusivist ecclesiology of the Roman Missal at the Latin Mass and Tradition in general. The Council is no more liberal.
There is no denial from Fr. Edward Joseph the Vicar General of the Archdiocese.
Cardinal Coutts the former Archbishop of Karachi needs to proclaim the Catholic Faith.
He must let Muslims know that the Rational Approach in the interpretation of Vatican Council II, is the official interpretation of the Catholic Church. Morally Vatican Council II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church must be interpreted only rationally. Then they are magisterial and apostolic.
The Catholic Church is saying today that Muslims in general are oriented to the fires of Hell, without faith and baptism ( Ad Gentes 7). If anyone is saved outside the visible boundaries of the Church it can only be known to God. The Church specifies which persons are oriented to Hell. This is done through the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus, which is also affirmed by the Catechisms.
Mohammad died without faith and baptism. He knew about Jesus and the Church and yet did not enter ( LG 14). Vatican Council II says he cannot be saved.
The norm for salvation is the baptism of water ( CCC 1257) and not LG 8, 14, 16. We do not know anyone who is saved outside the Church because ‘ God is not limited to the Sacraments.’( CCC 1257). So CCC 1257 does not contradict the norm for salvation.
Theoretical cases ( ‘not limited to the Sacraments’) are not practical exceptions for the norm ( CCC 1257- the Church knows of no means to eternal beatitude other than the baptism of water).
Cardinal Joseph Coutts must make an announcement. Catholics in Pakistan must know the traditional Catholic faith, in harmony with Vatican Council II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church interpreted only rationally. The Council and Catechism interpreted rationally are magisterial and apostolic, even when the pope and the cardinals are not.
