Paderborn Archbishop, Present at Blasphemy Event in Cathedral, Claims He "Knew Nothing"
On 27 May, a spokesman told CatholicNewsAgency.com that neither the organisers nor the cathedral had any prior knowledge of the performance's specific content. However, rehearsals certainly took place.
The Archdiocese of Paderborn expressed regret that the performance had offended religious sensibilities. This effect was "never intended" and "does not correspond to our claim to this place".
There will obviously be no credible public apology nor punishment. The archdiocese only stated, "We are taking the reactions to the performance very seriously and have already begun to revise our internal procedures."
The problem with this half-hearted statement: Archbishop Udo Markus Bentz, 58, and other prelates sat in the first pews as spectators throughout the event. No one reacted. It is not known whether they applauded with the other guests.
