Spanish Archdiocese Distances Itself After Priest Calls for Conversion of Morocco
The Archdiocese of Pamplona and Tudela, Spain, has distanced itself on August 5 from comments by one of its priests after he called for the "reconquest of Morocco and its conversion to Christianity" following the invasion into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
In a statement, the archdiocese said Rev. Javier Aizpún's remarks were "strictly personal opinions" that "neither represent nor are shared in any way by this diocesan Church."
The controversy stemmed from a post on X.com in which Aizpún, parish priest of San Juan Evangelista in Huarte and a canon of Pamplona Cathedral, wrote: "May Our Lady of Africa, patron saint of Ceuta, inspire the reconquest of Morocco and its conversion to Christianity. May we finish what Queen Isabella the Catholic left undone."
In subsequent posts, he also called for Spain to "bombard Rabat" and "open fire if necessary" in response to the mass crossing of invaders into Ceuta.

B.C. TikToker with young-onset Alzheimer’s ends life using MAID
A TikTok star from Victoria, B.C., who used the platform to share her experiences living with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease has died.
Rebecca Luna ended her life using medical assistance in dying on Saturday afternoon. She was 49.
She died peacefully while “surrounded by loved ones,” reads a post on the family’s GoFundMe, which was set up to help cover end-of-life expenses.
Last week, Luna announced to her more than 95,000 social media followers that she had decided to move up the date of her MAID appointment.
“I’m living in a body that doesn’t feel comfortable, safe, good,” she said in a TikTok video. “It feels terrible, so the idea of waiting two weeks felt like too much.”
The internet personality said she made the decision during a recent visit with her palliative care doctor.

Euthanasia Bill Rapporteur Attends Mass, Takes Offense at Anti-Euthanasia Homily
"One does not care for life by giving death," Father François Yambressinga, parish priest of La Madeleine in Châteaudun, said during his July 5 homily, before the French National Assembly's final vote on legalizing euthanasia tomorrow. He urged the faithful to "pray for life" and to "pray for parliamentarians so that they do not do just anything."
Among the congregation was Philippe Vigier, the bill's general rapporteur. He is also the mayor of Châteaudun and a member of the National Assembly for Les Démocrates.
Vigier attended the Mass because it was part of the town's annual Foire aux Laines medieval festival. Civic officials appear in costume. He sat in the front row dressed as the fifteenth-century military commander Jean de Dunois.
