On 25 March, Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court ruled that the 13-year-old Christian girl Maria Shabaz should be returned to the man accused of abducting and forcibly marrying her. Maria was reportedly abducted in July 2025 when she was 12 years old, forcibly converted to Islam, and married to a 30-year-old man. The legal marriage age in Punjab is 18. In recent weeks, three Catholic bishops and human rights organisations have issued statements urging the authorities to review the ruling.

He began his novitiate with the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary ("Picpus Fathers") in 1859.
