Worse than Germany: On June 24, the Spanish Bishops' Conference appointed economist Luis Ayala Cañón as the new president of Caritas Spain, the Church's largest charitable organization. He previously served on the Spanish Government's Advisory Council for Health and Social Services, reports InfoVaticana.com. He was appointed by Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's administration in 2019. Ayala has also collaborated with left-leaning organizations, including Fundación Alternativas, a think tank widely associated with the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE).
